[A/S] Re: 1965 airstream
Greetings Sue and John!
In 1965, the longest production Airstream was the Sovereign of the
Road at 30 feet. The following were the tandem axle Airstreams from
1965:
Trade Wind (24 feet); 3,810 lbs. Empty Weight, 430 lbs Empty Hitch
Weight
Overlander (26 feet); 3,950 lbs. Empty Weight, 440 lbs Empty Hitch
Weight
Ambassador (28 feet); 4,140 lbs. Empty Weight, 400 lbs Empty Hitch
Weight
Sovereign (30 feet); 4,370 lbs. Empty Weight, 410 lbs Empty Hitch

To aid in identifying the precise model of your coach, you can check
the serial number. If my information is correct, the serial number
on the coach should take the format as follows:
First Digit: S or J (S=California Assembly Plant/O=Jackson Center,
Ohio Assembly plant)
Second Digit: I or O (I=International trim level/O=Land Yacht trim
level)
Third & Fourth Digits: Length in feet
Fifth Digit: Last digit in Model Year
Sixth, Seventh, & Eights Digits: Sequential Production Number
(There is some confusion in the information that I have
regarding '65 - - one set of notes indicates that if the sequential
production number is less than 500 it represents a Twin bed
floorplan while over 500 represents a Double bed floorplan). In
another place my notes indicated transition in serial number
interpretation during 1964-65 regarding the end of the serial number
so interpreation of the last three digits is not entirely clear.
Good luck with your quest for further information!
