Hold your horses there fella. ;)
The 8.1 liter gas engine that GMC is using these days may not get quite the fuel mileage 
of a diesel but it will sure as heck pull your little ole 34'. The horsepower and torque 
ratings of the 8.1 vs diesel are very close. Less than 70 lb/ft of torque difference.
My '02 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton does a fine job pulling anything I put it in front of. Using 
the same Allison transmission as the diesel, with it's tow/haul mode makes it a 
trailerists dream. Out here in the intermountain West any tow rig gets a good work out.
When Trailer Life first tested GMC's 8.1 and diesel together the 8.1 outperformed the 
diesel in every area except fuel mileage. It will take a lot of fuel purchases to make up 
for the $4500 premium you pay for the diesel.
