If you have clearcoat on the aluminum , you have to strip the clearcoat 
before trying to polish the aluminum. A quick way to tell if a panel is 
clear coated if to put a dab of toothpaste on a white rag and polish on 
a small ( as inch or so) area. If the rag goes black, you are on 
aluminum . If it doesn't turn black you are on the clearcoat.  Clearcoat 
is removed with a paint stripper.
