Re: [A/S] Re: Canadian Towing
David,
Airstreams were light and aerodynamic at one point in their history however
with each successive decade of production they have become much heavier. I
own an assortment of 50's & 60's Airstreams which are much lighter than
today's models however they don't have all the bells and whistles of today's
trailers either. My 57 30' Sovereign of the Road weighs in at 3900lbs. I
would be surprised if you could find a 22 ft trailer today weighing that. I
purchased a dvd from the Vintage club last year that featured some 60's
advertising along with some wind tunnel tests. It was very interesting. They
claimed that an Airstream towed like a traditional box type trailer
weighing only 70% of the Airstreams weight. The wind tunnel testing showed a
lot of buffeting with the box type trailer and just smooth flow for the
Airstream.
