[A/S] Hauling a bike in the A/S

Don:  Here's our solution to hauling our bikes in the Airstream.  My husband
attached two fork clamps available from any bicycle supply store to a 1 x 6
piece of pine.  The pine is about 3 feet long so it allows 2 bikes between
the fork clamps.  Then the pine board is c-clamped to the rail above the
dining table directly in front of our front sofa.  We take the front wheels
off the bikes and attach the frames to the fork clamps.  The tires get
stored in the shower while we are traveling.

It's a little awkward to manipulate the bikes through the doors, but we
literally destroyed the frame of one bike when we tried to carry them on a
standard bike rack off the back of a SOB Class-C motorhome that we rented
several years ago.  We also tried carrying them on the front of the Suburban
but we didn't make it 15 miles before they drove me nuts and we moved them
inside and laid them against the bed.  We didn't like leaning them against
the bed because it made it really difficult to get to the bathroom during a
trip.  We also ended up with grease on the bedding before we realized we
needed to cover the beds with dog towels.

Our current solution isn't so great for hauling on long trips if you want to
be able to utilize the dining table during the day.  Another reason for
dreaming about a 30' with both front sofa and side dinette!
