That seems to be the problem from  the day  it was built. Back then when the
factory flipped the frame over after it was built and before the body was 
attached
it moved. So much so that the modern tires won't fit.
Solution: install new axles with a 35 deg.down angle as compared with the 
std.
25 degree. I don't think the inner fenderwell can be moved.
next project is to check for frame allignment. Only fear i have is if the 
frame is
so out of alignment the body will have to be removed to correct.
much bigger problem than my skills set wants to deal with. Who cares  if
looks good on my resume . Thinkin the axels needed to be replaced lookin at 
em
the last couple of years drooppin lower and lower.
one good thing did come out of my search/ quest my trailer grew a foot
found out that in 72 Safari's were 23' not 22' as i was told.
One side effect of new axles with a little more weight carring cap. and 
modified
angle it will make the trailer ride about 3" higher than  normal (possibly 
5+"higher
than now).Not sure i like that change.(lower handles detter)
It looks reasonably easy replace them while doing the shocks at the
same time. Just don't have it in the budjet  at this time. Would love to
have it done to take it to Lansing and suffer with the rest of you 8^)
I have heard that some have replaced there axles with Dexters version
of what Airstream uses. any ideas  any prices on both types. what have
