Re: [A/S] New brake controller

It looks like both the Hensley Hitch and Jordan control both get
people into religious moods or something.

Despite some of the hype that has been presented, the Jordan is just
one of several excellent modern brake controllers and it has its
drawbacks and preference points just like all the rest.

Where most of the arguments get to is playing the 'what if' game -
what if brakes fail, what if you are on ice, what if your brake pedal
breaks, what if the fuse blows, what if, what if, what if ...

The two most popular brake controllers right now are the Jordan and
the Tekonsha Prodigy. The jordan requires a mechanical link to your
brake pedal and the prodigy instead senses the action of vehicle
braking (it is a simple electrical connection only, often to a plug on
the harness of modern tow vehicles). Both have complex electronics.
Both provide excellent braking performance if properly installed and
adjusted. Both have people who swear by their performance and very few
who swear at them. Both have shown themselves to be reliable and
effective solutions for trailer braking.

i.e. you really can't go wrong with either of these two. And then
there are other alternatives. Some still tap into the brake hydraulics
and have the smarts to not interfere or be bothered by ABS systems.
Some have other features.

I have no problem with those who prefer one or the other. I do get a
bit bothered by those who make claims that aren't quite true. Both the
prodigy and the jordan provide 'true' proportional braking. Both can
activate the trailer brakes with no noticeable lag when adjusted
properly. Both have manual overrides. Both provide smooth braking when
adjusted properly and miserable performance when not. Both provide
indications of trailer braking. Take claims by adherents of some truth
or other with a good deal of skepticism or as an opinion rather than
fact. Look for what underlies the opinions and use that to help you
make a sound decision for your particular needs and tastes.
