Ken,

The 8.1 Liter engine comes with the Allison transmission rather than the GM 
transmission used on the smaller engines. I have just under 30K miles on my 
'02 with narry a wimper. Odds are you already
have synthetic in you transmission. According to the Allison website they 
change to Syntec as the factory loaded fluid in Feb '02. Which just 
happened to be 45 days after mine was built. Double check
with your dealer but you should be OK.
