Don,

The old Braun (sp?) log periodic (herringbone) antenna is still available
new and is a good choice.  Repair parts are available.  Get the amplifier
that goes in the wall if you don't have one.  You can tell by the little
switch to turn the amp off and on.  I've had a couple of both and like the
Braun better then the Winegard (batwing) type.  The Braun is more
directional, seems to have a better front to back ratio and is more sensitive
(higher gain).  The down side of the Braun is it's affinity for tree
branches.  B^0

All that said, the TV receiver makes more difference then which of these
antennas you have.  Most modern TVs are designed to be used with
cable or satellite and have low gain tuners that do a poor job with week
signals.  AC/DC TVs were intended to be used with small antennas in
less than ideal locations and have more sensitive front ends.  I currently
have a 9" Toshiba AC/DC with DVD player.  It's much more sensitive
than the 13" Sony AC only that preceded it.

Also, the Braun is the period correct device for your '76 vintage trailer
if that makes any difference to you.
