Greetings Don!

I have the "bat-wing" antennas on both my '64 Overlander and '78 
Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre.  The performance is wonderful - - even 
better than the "tower-type" antenna that I have for my residence.  
The down-side is that there have been problems (especially on some 
Vintage installations) with the ends of the "bat-wing" vibrating 
against the roof to point of wearing a hole in the aluminum - - this 
hasn't happened to me, but it was something that I was warned about 
by several.  My Airstream dealer handled the installation, and he 
checks the installation each time the coach is in for service 
(usually twice a year).

If either of my coaches would have had their original antennas in-
place, I would have tried rehabbing the original antenna first.  So 
long as the mast is in relatively good condition; gears are readily 
available as is the booster element according to what I was told 
recently.  A friend who has one of the original mast-type antennas 
with a replacement booster element has reception at least as good as 
I have been getting with the "bat-wing" antennas.
