I use the equivalent DISH service - called PVR (personal video recorder, I 
guess). It is built into several DISH receivers and the ones I have (model 
508) can record about 65 hours. I love it and don't ever want a 
conventional receiver again. Mine doesn't cost any extra per month, but I 
think DISH has gone back to charging monthly fees for those activated now.

Mine does not need a phone line - neither has ever been plugged into a 
phone line. They get the guide direct from the satellite. With the 
conventional single-LNB antenna I have on the top of the AS, I get a 
two-day guide. The deluxe antenna with dual LNBs provides a 9 day guide.

Soon DISH will release a new model (921) that can even record HDTV.
