We have this setup.  When we built the plywood platform to hold the sofa 
cushions, we hinged the base, thinking we could just lift it up to get to the 
drawer,  It doesn't work well, because the cushion does not allow to you lift it 
high enough.  It's okay if you just want to get something from the front of the 
drawer, but does not work well if you are working with several files.
