You may want to research the engine and trans before you decide - have not 
heard good thing about that particular combo of engine and trans - appears there 
may be problems with both. 

I just traded by '97 C2500 Silverado with Ext Cab and 5.0 liter gas engine 
due to anti-freeze leaks in the engine, including the manifold. With that year 
engine at least Chevy appears to be having a problem with gaskets being sucked 
in at the corners. Read reports of some owners needing engine rebuild at 60 
to 70K on Tahoe's. Felt I was lucky to get 123,000. Should have gotten a 
lot closer to 200k with that size truck and engine. 

Was looking at both Ford and Chevy diesels - Ford redesigned their 
Powerstroke for 2003 and is having problems, quietly replacing the new Powerstroke on 
early models due to injector and computer problems. 

Neighbor who is a Chevy mechanic told me to stay away from Chevy and Dodge, 
too many problems with Chey and his brothers company has to keep rebuilding the 
front ends and trans on Dodge. (Of course these are used for heavy farm and 
hauling duties, not everyday use.)

Just a few thoughts on what I found.

Got the 5.4 liter gas with F20 Superduty 4X4 extended cab, appears to be ok 
for now, only 250 miles on it. Of course feel like I am paying a mortgage at 
the price of new trucks now.
