Dan,

Nearly all RV converters, including Univolts will not operate correctly 
without being connect to a battery in the coach. They expect the battery to 
be there to act as a load and to smooth the output to a more even DC 
voltage. Without the battery in place the converter output is very noisy 
and can damage DC components in the coach including its self.
