First, go buy a new battery. Deep charge, not a starter one. See if that helps. Next, you probably want to replace the humming thing, called a Univolt, with an Intellipower charger thingy. The Univolts are not worth fixing, they're noisy and they fry batteries. Daisy '73 ambassador.
