[A/S] draining the freshwater tank

Hello, I am about to embark on 6 weeks of fall camping in our new (to
us) 1979 25' International. We will be at a site with city water,
which is a good thing because the water pump needs replacing--it is
not working at all. I have a couple questions:

With the pump not functioning, I assume the only way to drain the
freshwater tank is to remove the plug underneath, right?

I have removed the little sheet metal "access door" that hides the
plug. I can feel the plug in the plastic tank, but it is partially
hidden by the edge of the sheet metal box that the tank is in. How
can I get to the plug?

What kind of tool is required to remove the plug? It feels like a
hexagonal recess maybe .75 inches across. Is there a special tool
for this?

Thanks,
Phyllis in Alabama
