Re: [A/S] Univolt Schematic

Peg,

The Univolts were all created equal. Airstream did make some changes and
used different sources over time but the basic design was the same. For
many years the 12V fuse panel was included in the converter but eventually
separated for easier access and greater usability. The Univolts were all
proprietary in their design. It was not intended to be field repairable.
Internally they are quite simple with one fairly sophisticated transformer
for it's time, a 4 diode bridge rectifier and two electrolytic capacitors.
That along with the deep cycle battery provided a smoothed 12V DC output
through the fuse panel to the entire coach. Over the years many of use have
drilled the rivets, test the diodes and capacitors, replace parts and
returned them to service. At the same time the evolution of design of RV
converters has taken great leaps in quality of output, size and most
importantly sound. The Univolts are noisy. New designs are not.
