In my Safari, there is a switch on the wall that controls power to the 
converter.  The switch is "hidden" behind the window curtain and can easily 
(inadvertently) be turned off.  Maybe that's what happened to you.  I'd check to see 
that power was actually flowing to the battery before making any purchase.
