[A/S] Our tire experience

Thanks, Hampton, for suggesting Big O; turns out we have one locally in our
county. Although they were probably more expensive, and we didn't get "new"
or "name brand tires", it was a lot easier to tow to than the
alternative--about a 50 mile drive with either some very twisty sections or
some very high traffic areas.

With both rear tires pretty much shot, I didn't want to take the chance;
there were a number of stability problems, even with the Hensley.

When I got there, they told me they could just replace the back two, but
they didn't have any in stock, or replace all four, of which they had three
in stock; and that the prices would come out to about the same. My feeling
is that we're not on the road often enough yet to consider the cost of going
with a higher grade tire--this is actually the first time it's been on the
road in about two years (abouit two orthopedic procedures ago).

So I had to leave it overnight--however, they had me park it next to the
building, and went and stacked tires around the front of the trailer--which
prevented anyone from trying to either fool with the hitch or try to drive
the thing away. Seemed like a very clever idea to me.

And it does indeed ride much differently with radials.

The true miracle of this experience is that this is the single best hitch-up
I've ever had with the Hensley. I slid right into the hitch and mated
without even a bang. Amazing. Here's hoping it doesn't wind up an entry in
the Journal for Non-Reproducable Events.

We're going on the road this weekend...soon as I get all the pine pitch
washed off.

Have fun, everyone--
