I just did that about a month ago.  We got back from Montana in early August and the 
dust and dirt was so ground into the carpet that we couldn't get it very clean (coupled 
with the fact that the carpet was ancient and we have two teenage boys).  We left the 
carpet in the bedroom and bathroom and laid pergo in the kitchen/living room area.  It 
was fairly easy.  I used a power cutoff saw and a band saw to cut the flooring...I also 
used a dovetail saw.  The concern I had was water damage to the floor.  The top of the 
floor can take the water but if any gets down into the joint the flooring will swell 
and give you problems.  So to combat that I glued the flooring together.  The hardest 
part was cutting trim to go around the floor.  I used 1/4 round and it worked OK.  I 
would be interested to hear other folks experience with this.  I know quite a few have 
used cork flooring.  Hope this helps.
