I'd rather expect that 4kW whould suffice to keep the A/C running then. 
The best thing whould be to take an actual reading under load with a 
clamp on amp meter. Don't forget that an A/C unit actually cycles on 
and off when it has reached setpoint. (At least the coolong compressor 
does, snd that't the real power hog. Fan is not much of the load at 
all.) Check out the surge rating of the gen-sets, against the LRA 
(locked rotor amps) of the A/C unit(s). I hope for the sake of this 
discussion that 2000 watts is the continuous rating of the gen-sets, not 
the surge rating. If you get the nameplate data from everything we can 
calculate everything better. Of course that's where we started, isn't it?
