I don't think there would be any conflict if you are using a modern laptop 
with built-in modem and using the new small GPS from DeLorme (connects to 
the USB port), or a separate serial port for the older DeLorme (or other 
brand) GPS..

If your laptop uses a separate modem connected to your (only) serial port, 
then you would definitely want to use the small USB GPS to avoid having to 
connect/disconnect cables to switch.

I think it is neat that you can use the internet while cruising down the 
road. We have a primitive cell phone and we would have one heck of a bill 
if we did that!
