We have the Smartire System installed on our 3-axle 1999 Excella.  We had it 
installed at Discount Tire in Spokane Washington in July 2001.  We have been 
extremely satisfied with it.

There is a sensor installed on the hub of the rim of each tire (inside).  
There is a small monitor on the sun visor that displays the six tires.  You 
program each tire as you want for minimum and maximum tire pressure.  If that tire 
goes below or above what you have set, a warning goes off. There is no 
physical connection between the truck and trailer - the only antenna is a small one 
that extends from the monitor itself.  We plug it in to our 'live' 12-volt 
outlet when we are breaking camp.  The monitor will display the tires after 
driving approximately 10 miles.  We leave it plugged in while we are traveling, 
stopping for lunch, etc., and then disconnect it when we stop for the night.

We are not aware of a Smartire system that will handle more than 6 tires, but 
they may have come out with something since we bought ours.  Ours cost $505 
total, including installation.
