[A/S] Re: Entrance Door
Soon after we bought our new 1999 34', we noticed that the door seemed
warped. We were concerned that it would come open during travel, and made a wedge
to push through the handle. It is just a piece of wood covered with carpeting.
It fits very tight and we feel secure that the door won't come open in the
wind. We've had the door worked on a couple of times, but it always bows out
again after a period of time.
Today, driving across South Dakota, we stopped at a rest stop for lunch, and
when we opened the door, it nearly fell off. The upper hinges have completely
sheered off, like someone had sawed them in two. The lower hinges are okay,
but are bearing the complete weight of the door. We are so thankful for our
little wedge, for without it, there is no doubt we would have lost the door
completely.
We duck taped the hinge to the Airstream just to keep it from flapping in the
wind, put the wedge back and continued down the road. It appears to be
traveling okay. Hope to find a repair place at Mitchell.
