Re: [A/S] Towing with an older vehicle
I'm in the process of getting my 77 Lincoln Continental Towncar (460cid)
setup as a vintage tow vehicle. I was able to get a class 3 hitch that was
a custom bolt-on for the car from JC Whitney for $129. I think the brand is
Hidden Hitch. I paid my local mechanic $30 to put it on the rack and
install the hitch. I don't have my catalog with me and don't remember how
far back the bolt-on hitches go, but I would check with them first. I doubt
Uhaul will carry one that fits. I also got my extra-large capacity
transmission cooler from JC Whitney for about $54. I haven't towed with the
Lincoln yet and I can't tell you how it pulls, but I expect it to be
excellent given the length (1/2 foot longer than an Excursion), weight
(5,000+), and power (7.5 liter engine). Of course, the tradeoff is gas
milage (I get about 8 in town and 11-12 on the highway when not pulling
anything).
