Hi Verna, 

You mentioned a problem that was common 70+ years ago. My parents instilled
on us kids that we put on our shoes at the foot of the bed for the very
reason you said.  They knew what would occur if we sat in the middle all the
time.  

Granted, the materials used in mattresses back then was different from
current materials, but the story is similar.  Some things don't change too
much over the years.
