You could also use some loctite on the threads if it continues to back 
out after wrenching it. Loctite will also fill the threads to give you 
the same effect as the putty/pipe sealant. If you try the loctite make 
sure that you don't use the high strength as you have to apply heat to 
remove it.

You could also they to fit a drain cock, as it make draining the tank a 
whole lot easier. Just run a hose out the door and turn it on.
