Re: [A/S] New tow vehicle Factory wiring harness

When I bought my 2002 Chevy pickup, with HD towing package, the wiring
harness for connecting to the brake controller was in the glove compartment
or console. It came with the vehicle. [This had the connector to plug into
the electrical panel under the dash. The other end of the 2' or so long
pigtail had no terminals.]

Also incliuded was an adapter plug for the rear Bargman connector which had
a five wire (I think) flat connector output.

Make sure the dealer provides you with these components. If not, the parts
department can order them for you. If the dealer gives you a hard time,
call the GM Zone office, whose phone number is in your owner's manual. (You
could also suggest that the dealer look inside some other new vehicles on
the lot which have the HD towing package.) Also, the service manager will
probably know about this. Typically, dealers send the vehicle to an RV or
trailer hitch shop to install the brake controllers and weld up the hitch.

I did have to buy my own seven pin Bargman connector (to mate with the new
truck's receptacle by the hitch receiver) to replace the old Signal Stat
plug on my '76's umbilical cable.

Good luck,

Oliver Filippi
