Hunter,
We have the same drawer and the same problem when we need something from it,
we have to move something to open it.  It is heavy, won't pull out if
someone is sitting on the couch and is really a big pain.
We've been discussing 3 drawers, the middle one holding the most often
needed items.
Maybe  slides mounted underneath like kitchen drawers would work.
Still thinking it over.
