[A/S] 2 Questions (plus #3 and #4)

As for auto/travel club insurance for towing, I've used RV Emergency Road
Service (800.777.4869) by Affinity Road and Travel Clubs for the last 15
years and am satisfied with how I've been assisted.  This is in addition to
the regular car insurance we have on each of our tow vehicles.  There are
other companies offering a similar service.

We've had our truck and trailer towed by a tow truck (while both of us rode
in our truck). We've had our truck flat bedded (Sandie had her first
experience <gasp> riding in our truck on top of the flat bed) while the
trailer was towed by the tow truck. And, we've had our truck towed from a
campground when it wouldn't start.

On each occasion, the tow resulted in locating a mechanic who solved the
problem within one or two days (slept in trailer overnight). There was never
any out of pocket cost for the tow. I always paid the mechanic (or his boss)
for services. 

The answer to your question about needing back-up lights is simple. For me,
it's "No." But that doesn't mean I don't have a big old search light for
night time occasions when I back into a campsite (after being delayed and
arriving after dark) or when backing out of a dead end dirt road (after
taking a wrong turn in same campground). The hand held type search light
which lights up a city block is my preference. To each their own.

A third question you might have asked is, "Do you have insurance in the
event you are hurt and unable to tow your rig home?" The answer is, "Yes,
for 15 years we've had Emergency Air Ambulance Service (800.643.9023) which
includes flying whichever one of us has been injured (and one other person)
to a hospital that specializes in treating the kind of wound suffered; AND
they will tow our Airstream home, feed our cats and provide eight other
services.  We have never used this insurance and hope never to need it.

A fourth question you might have asked is, "Are all insurance companies
created equal?" The answer is, "No, and the time to find that out is before
leaving on the first trip. There are insurance companies that specialize in
RVs. You might want to consider looking into one (800.598.9348) or more of
those." Others on this list have insight I'm sure they will share. Also,
there are extensive data in Tom Patterson's archives. You might want to
rummage around in there, too.
