The worst part about changing a dump valve can be the fact that the original
plumbing was all glued together and there's no "give" to enable R&R'ing the
valve. Our Avion is like that, with the black valve, gray valve and joining
'Tee' all cemented into one solid assembly. When I needed to change the gray
valve, I spent some time looking over the situation and decided that the
only way to do it was to saw out a piece of pipe ahead of the gray valve.
There was only a few inches of pipe, all the rest was back-to-back fittings
with very short pieces of pipe joining them. I sawed out an inch or 2 of
that pipe, changed the valve, then reconnected the stubs with a 3" rubber
fitting from the hardware store that incorporates hose clamps. It's a nice,
solid repair that allows future disassembly for needed repairs, either the
black OR gray valve.
