Re: [A/S] hitches...cars,,.trucks
I can second this from experience, although
I didn't entirely get rid of the Swap hitch (Equalier Hitch).
I had the same setup, 1999 F350 Crewcab, Long box Dually, and had the
Sway bars set very lightly, almost no effect from them, but they seemed
to only marginally cancel any sway. I pulled the trailer 31' Excella
early on with no Equalier hitch, and didn't at any time feel out of
control. Of course the weight of thee truck being roughly equal to the
trailer probably had a lot to do with it.
I wouldn't have had a problem with towing without the sway control at all.
It really does com down to having the right vehicele up front to tow
with in my opinion. The longer the wheel base the better.
For comparision, we just traded in the F350 for a 2002 Excursion, While
it weighs roughly the same as the F350 did, It does have a shorter
wheelbase and NO Dually Axle out back. It seems to catch the wind more
noticably as a consequence. I will feel much better with the eaqualizer
than without.
Some other thoughts on the subject, I don't ever recall any of the RV
trailer transports (where they haul a trailer on the Flat bed with
another out back ever having a Equalizer hitch installed. They are
using the same SuperDuty chassis that the F350 was built on. I
attribute this to the fact that they load the towveichle correctly and
wisely always have the tow vehicle set to the appropriate weight for
hauling (towing) the second trailer.
Just some more food for thought.
