Some real good stuff here - I had to go find out about peukert
numbers. I had always put cell load balancing as rather high on the
series configuration assets list but the lower current idea with
parallel is a good thought.
On Uve's battery page it says that the optima peukert exponent (search
for peukert lead acid battery) runs from 1.06 to 1.1 while the
standard wet cell types run 1.2 or better. This means that the optima
has much better low load capacity. It is interesting that the optima
batteries do well even against the concord AGM. But this may explain
why many folks say they get such good capacity from the optima
batteries in actual practice.
(this index is the current exponent on the capacity equals current
times time equation so higher values indicate poorer load capacity
performance)
AGM batteries like the optima have one other very important feature
over wet cell types. They can be safely placed inside the rv in any
convenient location. You do not have to worry about venting or spills
and very little about corrosion. AGM batteries also tend to last
longer (factor of two) than wet cells if I understand things right.
