[A/S] Buying an 03 Expy Puller comments appreciated !

First, I really would like to thank all the regulars for keeping this
forum going. Reading the debates and discussions for the last two
years has helped us decide what trailer we were going to buy "some
day". Well someday showed up on a used car lot last week and we
snapped it up with our eyes wide open, thanks to you folks. Of course
now that I got a deal on an old trailer I have to spend a chuck on the
tow vehicle!

We are the new caretakers of an 85 sovereign 25. Plate says maximun
is around 6,800 lbs, 3,800 empty. We are 5 years from retiring, so
the tow vehicle will do a lot of in-town driving. The Ford 03
Expedition 5.4 L engine with 2 wheel drive is very comfortable and
rides nicely. On paper it looks like it should pull our trailer just
fine, even meeting the 75% test.

I think the relative lack of power compared to GM won't be an issue,
as we usually pull on I-84 (pretty flat) or slow speed mountain roads.
What I am concerned with is the spring rates. Are these things
boulavard crusers that fall apart with a real load, or do they do the
job? Comments from anyone pulling with that independent year axel
would be appreciated.
