My furnace quit last year.  All it would do is start and blow cold air.

I checked the bottles, plenty of gas.  Gas water heater was working OK.

Removed the ignitor from the furnace which was covered with soot.
Cleaned it of by scraping with a kitchen knife.  Reinstalled and that was
it, the hot air was back.

Worked OK for a week or two and the problem came back.
  Re cleaned the ignitor and all was well again for a while.

Turns out the regulator at the tanks had a leaky diaphram
causing the soot to accumulate.

Replaced regulator ($39.00), recleaned the ignitor and
SO FAR SO GOOD.

You might try cleaning the ignitor.  Who knows?
