Someone also makes special rear spring shackles that have a rubber insert
that acts as the "spring" when the truck is unloaded. Just a bit of weight
in the rear causes it to run out of travel and act like a standard shackle.

Like some others, I've noticed a big difference in ride by lowering the tire
pressure to 35 PSI or so. My normal pressure is about 45-48 PSI, as I seldom
have more than 1000# in the bed. Even my golf cart doesn't weigh that much,
and the tires still don't get hot with it on-board. I check my tires at most
every stop with one of those Ray-Tec infrared heat guns.
