Re: [A/S] Bought Used Airtstream-What Should We Look For?

Carl,

I would not be as worried about the bearings and brakes and I would be
about the tires. Tires start to goo bad the minute they are made and
frankly it's not worth the damage to the trailer to not replace the
tires. Yes, I'd have the bearings re-packed, it is something you can do
yourself though. You'll know about the brakes when you test them prior to
pulling the trailer. Be sure to check all the lights, make sure the door
is closed and locked (as well as all compartment covers), the gas bottles
are tightly secured and the breakaway switch works. Other than that take
it easy if this is the first time you've pulled something that size, It
takes longer to get up to speed and longer to stop, sorry if this is
obvious to you, it not to everyone the first time. Also remember it is
back there when you turn, you don't want to curb a new (to you)
trailer. Did it come with a weight distributing Hitch? If not and you
aren't pulling it with a heavy pickup you might consider getting one
first. Brand name is up to you, some people have the Hensley hitch and
would not tow with anything else, some (like me) use a Resse and have for
many years with no problems. Evaluate your needs and get the one you like,
talk to others on the list and see why they like the hitch they have. This
has been long winded enough, ask more questions if you have them
