I had a 1999 2500 Suburban with the 454cid engine.  I had no overheat
problems even towing 8000# in the Sierras.  It made it towing the same
trailer to Alaska and back just fine.  My only complaint was the fuel
mileage.  After 39,000 miles I upgraded to a Duramax/Allison in 2001.
