[A/S] Re: what to buy to pull a 64 safari (29 ft; 4100lbs)?

profchidz:

there is something wrong here:
1)A '64 Safari is 22 foot
2) A '64 Ambassador is 28'
3) A '64 Soveriegn in 30'
see this web site:

You say the trailer weighs 4000# that sounds about right for a 22'

I have a 59 Tradewind 24' and it is about 3800# dry /empty.
If it is infact a 22" a 1/2 ton pickup with the big V8 say like the
old 351 will do, you didn't mention engine size.
Others have said get long wheel base, you don't want a short box
pickup with the regular cab.
A short box with the extended cab has a longer wheel base than a long
box standard cab. Either of these are okay for a 22' trailer.
Check the tow rating of the truck, should be on the driver's door.
You don't want the tow rating to be near the "loaded weight" of the
trailer, you should have some spare capacity or you will have a "dog"
and as other have said you will be overstessing the drive train.
