I stand corrected.  I suppose my '62 must not have had a grey water tank then.  
What I must be remembering (it's been over 20 years since I camped in it) is 
that if you pulled part way out on the dump hand, just the grey water would 
come out. This allowed the trailer to dump all the grey water directly onto the 
ground instead of into the holding tank.  It was a bypass valve of some sort.
