RE: [A/S]Floors (was Convection micro v. standard gas oven; Wilson art floori...

The family room / den in the house I grew up in was floored in
12 x 12" squares of cork. Compared to the wood floors in other parts of
the house, I remember Mom liked the comparative ease of caring for the
cork floor - mopping (there were 3 kids, 2 boys) and periodic waxing. To
a kid the floors were softer (to tumble on) & warmer in winter (I always
liked watching TV on the floor with a huge pillow, still do). I don't
remember any big family flaps over food spills when we kids took our
meals to the TV room (so as not to miss Gunsmoke or Bonanza), so this
waxed cork must have been fairly resistant to food stains. But we were
also quick "picker uppers" or we wouldn't be allowed to eat in there.
