[A/S] Diesel Suburban?
I currently have a 1994 Ford Centurion Conversion C-350 SUV with the
pre-Powerstroke 7.3L Turbo Diesel.(See CurtyNeal83Limited photo in the
photo album) As it ages and approaches 200K, I am beginning to think
about beginning the search for a new tow vehicle. Since I seem to have
an affinty for Fords, my first thought is to look at a diesel
Excursion. I try to keep an open mind, however, and will probably
check out 2500 Suburbans as well. The one thing that especially makes
me consider the GM is the new Isuzu "Duramax" diesel with it's
pre-injection technology. I have a buddy who was just about ready to
buy a Ford Pickup with a Powerstroke, then on a whim test drove a new
GM and ended up with the GM, primarily because of the engine. The
pre-injection technology yields a much quiter engine. Inside his cab
you barely hear the diesel. All this leading to the question: Is the
Duramax Diesel an option in the new Suburban or Yukon XL?
Ford will have an answer to the Duramax in mid 2003 with their new
6.0L Powerstroke, made by International, in the Excursion. 2003 is
also rumored to be the last model year of the Excursion. The rumor is
that they will replace it with an Expedition XL. An extended
Expedition on an F-150 chassis, with a light duty 3/4 ton option.
