[A/S] New Remodeling pictures and question

I just added two new pictures of my ongoing remodeling project to my 
85 Sovereign folder.

As you can see, I replaced the front credenza/folding table with an 
oak cabinet/folding table.  The cabinet is raised panel, with an 
actual door, rather than the pressed wood and tambour door 
arrangement I removed (I sometimes think I am creating a Limited, one 
piece at a time).  The door, being almost front-facing, has a 
positive latch, not just a spring catch.

In the second of these pictures, you can see the fold-out table fully 
extended (you can also see our newly upholstered couch/bed).  When 
up, but folded, we find it just a bit tight for two.  When fully 
extended, it is much too large, and rather in the way.  Question: 
could someone give me a good reason why I should not re-engineer the 
table to have a split top to accept two leaves?  Advantages: We could 
set the table up and have it the same size it is now, add a leaf to 
where it is perfect for the two of us, or add two leaves and be as 
large as the present arrangement.  It would be lighter to raise, 
easier to slide back and forth on the rail, and would always be flush 
with the credenza extension, making the table that much larger in 
effect.  The disadvantages are:  ????
