Hi Richard,

Like most  home heating systems, there should be a delay at the thermostat
that prevents the furnace turning on/off.  Your problem suggests that there
is something amiss with the thermostat.  Don't know for sure, IMHO opinion
this is the problem and it's not with the furnace.  Maybe a capacitor or
something like this in the thermostat.
