[A/S] Bargman Repro Door Handles for '50's A/S
Hello all,
I'm a certified '50's trailer nut. I live in a 1953 Spartanette, and
own and am restoring a 1950 Spartan Mansion, a 1957
Overlander, and a 1956 Caravanner. They all have some parts in
common, particularly Bargman lighting and hardware.
One of the most notorious Bargman parts (other than the #99 tail
light) was the H-20-2 door handle. It was a beautiful shape, but it
was cast in pot metal and nearly every one breaks off in the
same place.
I decided to try to reproduce it for a reasonable price and offer it
to other Spartan and Airstream owners. I use the word
reasonable with some qualification. A small-run, high-quality
casting can't be made inexpensively. I am working on pricing
with the foundry and should have info on that soon.
I also decided to reproduce the bezel and the inner handle
(Spartan style), too. All these pieces are cast of high-tensile
aircraft aluminum, and there should never be a problem with
breakage again. They can be heat-treated for even more strength
at an additional charge. The outer handle and the bezel are
beautifully chromed. The inner handle is polished.
One modification I've made to the Airstream handle is to move
the lock cylinder locating notch 180 degrees (since the bezel is
actually used upside-down on Airstreams) so the lock cover is
situated correctly (hinge up).
I've posted a folder called "Bargman Door Handles" in the
photos section. Please contact me off-list if you have questions
or interest.
Sorry to be so long-winded.
