The 7 wires are only required if you run a fridg or other 12v 
service other than ,

Brake, Right Turn, Left Turn, Battery Charge, Running Lights, 
Trailer Brakes. The spring loaded disc is the electric brake magnet. 
The wire for this is usually blue and will only be hot when you 
apply your tow vehicle brakes assuming that you have a brake 
controller mounted in tow vehicle.

The round disc will have very little brake pad as they are made to 
wear down. As long as they are not down to the brass screws they are 
usually ok.
