Given that you're willing to shut off the charger if necessary, I 
might try it... at least you'd have half of a pair if it didn't work 
out.  You might also try to automate this with a couple of timers, 
one to shut off the AC and the other to turn the charger on, in the 
wee hours of the morning when it's cooler.  But at any rate, I'd 
definitely monitor the voltage and try to keep it above 115V.
