Jonathan,

I feel that if water can get out may be other things can get in.  Also,
even a small amount of leakage will in time cause the galvanized
steel pan to rust.  Mine has some rust already.

The crack in my tank is located right at the top corner of the notch
(this tank looks like a rectangle with a notch cut out near the street
end).  The tank rides between the axles and I think has been used
for many years in the 30, and 31' trailers.
