I'm a new Safari owner. The Hensley stabilizing hitch has been
discussed here to some length.

How necessary is it?

I just plunked down almost 25K$ for a 2001 Safari, and now if I
have to part with another $2500 or so, I won't be able to afford
a trip south this winter (seriously).

Can I reasonably make a several thousand mile trip with just the
stock Airstream hitch?
