"Steel" wool now comes in bronze and stainless steel.  Most often, sold by
marine vendors.  You would eliminate the rust problem.  Anytime you
introduce dissimilar metals you invite; bimetal corrosion- galvanic
corrosion - electrolysis.  All very similar.  Try to keep what ever type of
metal wool you choose, out of direct contact with the less noble aluminum .
